About Allies

Vision:
ALLIES will help create a more equitable metropolitan Washington community.

Membership: Any person or organization committed to working from a spiritual or faith perspective to address the root causes of racial disparities, supporting the self-determination of people of color, and creating reconciled relationships of mutual respect and care across our region's racial-ethnic and religious divisions.

Structure: Our evolving Steering Committee is multiracial and interfaith. It includes members of Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopalian religious communities. We welcome more racial, cultural and religious diversity in our antiracist leadership.

The Steering Committee meets as needed, and occasionally in people of color and white caucuses to work on our internalized racial oppression and internalized racial superiority.
Unless we can imagine a world without oppression,
we can’t create one.

That’s our challenge.

To imagine the unimaginable.

To believe that a community without oppression is possible.

To envision what it would look like, and feel like.

To imagine how it can work.
